We believe that visual art engages our pupils and provides exciting opportunities for our children to develop their artistic skills as well as learning about art history. We are an Arts Mark Gold school and in addition, we are also Arts Award registered and each year, our year 3 and year 5 will complete the Discover and Explore award.
Visual Art
During each term, every child receives explicit art sessions with Mrs Lockwood as well as art sessions with class teachers. Evidence of our children's learning is shown though the fantastic displays around our school. During the course of the year, children will get to experience 6 different strands of visual art; drawing, painting, printing, collage, textiles and 3D. We have also been fortunate to work with some amazing artists from our local community and these are evident around the school, from stained glass windows, cardboard sculptures and our most recent addition - our vibrant new playground mural, which we worked in partnership with local muralist and illustrator, Catalina Carvajal!
There has been lots of printing happening with Mrs Lockwood in year 3! They have experimented with using different tools to see what shapes and textures could be created. In class, the children have made their own plasticine stamps to create dragon scales!
Year 4 art
In year 4, the children have been painting and have used watercolours and poster paints to see how they can be used for different effects. In the style of Georgia O'Keefe, the children have painted their own flowers.
Year 5 art
Year 5 have also been painting and have looked at tones and tint and how to create graduated colourways..
Year 6 art
Year 6 have also been printing using press printing. They have also printed onto textiles to create an amazing wall hanging-be sure to look out for it around the school and thank you to Mrs Haighton for stitching it together!
