The Autumn term has started well with the children enjoying their swimming lessons every Monday with some children making really good progress already. They have been developing their French language skills by learning how to ask the time and where places are, as well as revisiting colours and numbers.
Our first DT project has been making and tasting some delicious, nutritious food: a Smorrebrod (Danish open sandwich) and a Mezze (a bowl of healthy, savoury foods) whilst honing their slicing, chopping, grating and designing skills. I think the rye bread was quite a required taste for many of the children! |

As part of the study of Materials and their Properties in science, we have learned about reversible and irreversible changes. The children have been describing processes (melting, freezing, dissolving, heating, evaporating) and their effect on materials.
Alongside our arithmetic in maths, the children have been developing their understanding of shape, including perimeter, area, polygons, angles and 3D shapes.

We have begun our next history topic - The Maya - learning about where they lived and the chronology of their existence; we will continue to learn more about this civilization next half-term.
Coronation Day celebrations were great fun – Year 5 were involved in a range of activities and took part in a Litter/Recycling Roadshow, as well as learning about the ‘Big Help Out’ to encourage voluntary support in the community.

It has been another busy half-term in Year 5 and we were excited to have two visits as part of our topics. As enthusiastic astronomers, we entered the Planetarium to experience looking at the night sky, positions of the planets and sun, constellations and life at the International Space Station. What a terrific start to our Earth and Space topic!
