Year 3 had a fantastically productive Spring term that began with our topic on Mountains. We introduced this with a trip to Avid climbing centre which has recently opened in Ipswich. The children had a brilliant time with many overcoming and conquering their fears. Every single child had a go and it was enjoyed by all. The topic culminated with some model making and we all enjoyed impressing everyone with our knowledge of mountain features.
Our next topic was all about weather around the world. We were lucky enough to have the meteorologist Chris Bell in to speak with every class about his journey to becoming a meteorologist and the children loved hearing about his storm chasing adventures in America. He can occasionally be seen presenting the local weather forecast on BBC Look East!
All children in year 3 were given the opportunity to learn a story after being inspired by the storyteller, John Harris. We created a class story map and children went home and learned the story by heart in preparation for their story telling performance to the rest of the class. The year 3 winner was Mia Garnham. Congratulations Mia!
In science, the children learned about 'Rocks' and their formation. To help them understand this, we made igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks using chocolate!
We have also learned all about 'Light' and we investigated how to change the shape of shadows. To enable this, the children used some design and technology sessions to create a puppet theatre.
We look forward to another successful term!
