The year three classes have made a brilliant start to their new school year in a whole new school environment. We kicked off the year with a visit from the fantastic Mark, from Horrible Histories fame and he delivered a fun but extremely informative insight into what life was like in Ancient Egypt. The children looked amazing in their costumes and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents for all their support as they really looked the part.
On the day itself, Mark bought in many of his artefacts to share with the children and they all listened carefully and asked lots of interesting questions. In one classroom, the children had a go at playing an ancient board game called Hounds & Jackals, which as they found out, has lots of similarities to both Snakes & Ladders and Ludo, and in another classroom we had our own museum. The highlight of the day was most certainly the afternoon session where the children and Mark re-enacted a Pharaoh’s mummification and there were plenty of gruesome moments for the children to enjoy!
In English, we are writing our own adventure stories based on the story of The Iron Man, by Ted Hughes. To link in with this, the children will be working on an Iron Man themed dance that will be showcased in our Tea Afternoon.
All of the children have started choosing reading and library books and have begun using Accelerated Reader to quiz on their books. Please ensure your children read as often as possible to support their reading-it really is vital. As well as this, children now have a Times Table Rock star login and will get homework to complete online.
