SLEs (Senior Leaders in Education)

SLEs are outstanding middle and senior leaders in positions below the headteacher for example, deputy/assistant headteachers, subject leaders or school business managers, with at least 2 years’ experience in a particular field of expertise.

SLEs have the capacity, skills and commitment to support other individuals or teams, in similar positions in other schools.

They understand what outstanding leadership practice in their area of specialism looks like and are skilled in helping other leaders achieve it in their own context.

The aim of Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs) is to offer support to individuals and teams in similar roles in other schools. They are experienced leaders who have demonstrated outstanding practice and have the skills to support others in similar contexts

With over 7,300 SLEs within the school system, SLE designation is becoming increasingly recognised as a vital role in school-to-school support and will play an influential part in the self-improving school led system.

Take a look at the film below to hear our SLEs talking about their role.

If you would like any additional information about the role of SLEs, we are holding an information event on Wednesday 26th April from 4-5pm at Springfield Junior School (see SLE invite and booklet below).
